SSC JE Recruitment 2023 Selection Process:
- The Selection Process is based on the Examination, followed by document verification.
- The Examination consists of Paper-I & Paper-II (Computer Based Examination and written examination).
SSC JE Exam Pattern 2023:
Paper-I (Objective Type): Computer Base Mode:
- Paper-I will be conducted in computer-based mode with a total of 200 marks.
- The SSC JE Question paper will be set on General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil & Structural, Electrical, Mechanical).
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I.
- Duration: 02 Hours
- Candidates are not allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Calculator, Logarithm Tables, and Steam Table for Paper-I.

Paper-II (Conventional Type ): Written Examination
- The written exam will be conducted for 300 marks in General Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Structural & Electrical).
- The total duration of the written exam will be 2 Hours.
- Candidates are allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Calculator, Logarithm Tables, and Steam Table for Paper-II only.

SSC JE Answer key 2023:
- Answer Keys will be placed on the Commission‟s website after the Examination.
- Candidates may go through the Answer Keys corresponding to their Test Form and submit representations, if any, within the time limit given by the Commission through online modality only, on payment of Rs 100/- per question.
- Any representation regarding the Answer Key received within the time limit fixed by the Commission at the time of uploading of the Answer Key will be scrutinized, and the decision of the Commission in this regard will be final.
SSC JE Syllabus 2023:
- The standard of the questions in Engineering subjects will be at the level of Diploma & Engineering in Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical.
General Intelligence & Reasoning:
- The Syllabus for General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal types.
- The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, et.
General Awareness:
- Questions will be aimed at testing the candidate‟s general awareness of the environment around him/ her and its application to society.
- The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries, especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Scientific Research, etc.
General Engineering (Civil):
- Building Materials, Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.
- Structural Engineering: Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology, RCC Design, Steel Design.
General Engineering(Electrical ):
- Basic concepts, Circuit law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and Measuring instruments, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.
General Engineering(Electrical ):
- Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Properties of Pure Substances, 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, Air standard Cycles for IC Engines, IC Engine Performance, IC Engines Combustion, IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication, Rankine cycle of System, Boilers, Classification, Specification, Fitting & Accessories, Air Compressors & their cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Principle of Refrigeration Plant, Nozzles & Steam Turbines.
SSC JE Minimum qualifying marks:
- UR: 30%
- OBC/ EWS: 25%
- Others: 20%
Resolution of tie cases:
In case more than one candidate secures equal aggregates marks in PaperI+Paper-II, the tie will be resolved by the following conditions:
- Total marks in Paper II.
- Date of birth, with older candidates, placed higher.
- Alphabetical order of the Candidate’s name will be considered.
Application Fee: Rs.100/- ( No fee for SC/ST/PWD/Ex-Servicemen/Women candidates)
Mode of Payment: BHIM UPI, SBI Challan/ Net Banking or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit, or Debit card.
