NIO Recruitment 2024: The CSIR – National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has announced notifications for the Junior Stenographer/Junior Secretariat Assistant posts. There are 09 vacancies available for these posts. Candidates with 12th qualifications are eligible to apply for these posts. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online from 20 August 2024 to 19 September 2024 and send the hard copy by post on or before 30 September 2024. Detailed Eligibility

Educational Qualification:

Junior Stenographer: 10+2/XII or it’s equivalent and proficiency in stenography as per the prescribed norms fixed by DOPT from time to time.

Junior Secretariat Assistant (Finance & Accounts/Stores &Purchase): 10+2/XII or its equivalent and proficiency in computer type speed and in using computers as per the prescribed norms fixed by DOPT from time to time.

Age Limit (As on 19 September 2024):

• Junior Stenographer: 27 Years
• Junior Secretariat Assistant: 28 Years

Age Relaxation: 

• The upper age limit is relaxable up to 05 years for Scheduled Tribe and 03 years for Other Backward Class [OBC] – Non Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates, as per Government of India orders in force, only in respect of those cases where the posts are reserved for the respective categories.
• The upper age limit is relaxable up to the age of 35 years (up to 40 years for members of Scheduled Tribes, for the posts reserved for them) for Widowed, divorced women and women judicially separated from their Husbands and who are not remarried.
• Age relaxation to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities of 10 (Ten) years [15 years for ST and 13 years for OBC candidates]
• The upper age limit is relaxable by 03 years, after deduction of the rendered military service from the actual age for Ex-servicemen, as on the closing date for submission of online application.
• There is no age limit for CSIR departmental candidates provided they possess the prescribed qualification.

Selection Process for NIO Careers:

For Junior Stenographer Posts: 

• The selection will be made based on the merit list of the Competitive Written Examination and Proficiency Test in Stenography which is qualifying in nature.
• These tests will be conducted for only those candidates who the duly constituted Selection Committee shortlists.

Scheme of Competitive Written Examination:

• Mode of Examination: OMR or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination
• Medium of Questions: The questions will be set in English and Hindi, except for the questions in English.
• Standard of Exam: 10+2/XII
• Total No. of Questions: 200
• Total time allotted: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for the candidates eligible for scribe)

Competitive Written Examination:

• 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer
• Written Examination will consist of only one paper with 03 parts as detailed below

Proficiency Test in Stenography:

• The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 80 w.p.m. for the post of Junior Stenographer.

Preparation of Merit List:

• The proficiency test will only be qualifying in nature.
• The final merit list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidates in the Competitive Written Examination.
• The merit list will only comprise of those candidates who have qualified the proficiency test in stenography.

For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Finance & Accounts/Stores & Purchase) Posts:

• The short-listed candidates will be called for a Proficiency Test in computer typing speed which is qualifying in nature.
• The Qualified candidates will be called for Competitive Written Examination.

Proficiency Test in Computer: 

• English Typing @ 35 w.p.m and Hindi Typing @ 30 w.p.m. The time allotted for typing will be 10 minutes. 35/30 w.p.m. correspond to 10500 / 9000 KDPH on an average of 5 key depression for each word
• All the candidates who qualify in the Proficiency Test in Computer will only be called for Written Examination.

Scheme of Competitive Written Examination:

• Mode of Examination: OMR-Based or Computer-Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination
• Medium of Questions: The questions will be set both in English and Hindi except the questions on English language
• Standard of Exam: 10+2/XII
• The written examination consists of two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2). Paper 2 will be evaluated only for those candidates who secure the minimum threshold marks (to be determined by the Selection Committee) in Paper 1.

Written Examination:

• There will be no negative marks for the paper I
• One negative mark for every wrong answer for paper II

Preparation of Merit List:

• Proficiency Tests in Computers are qualifying in nature.

• Paper 1 of the Written Examination is also qualifying in nature. The Selection Committee will fix the minimum cut-off marks in Paper 1.
• Paper 2 will be evaluated only for those candidates who secure the minimum threshold marks (to be determined by the Selection Committee) in Paper 1.
• The Final Merit list will be prepared only based on marks obtained by the candidates in Paper 2.

• For UR/OBC/EWS: Rs. 100/-
• For SC/ST/PwBD/Women/CSIR Departmental Candidates/ESM category: Nil
